Maastricht, 25 August 2020 – Wonen Limburg [Living in Limburg] is offering housing to some 127 students in the brand new student complex Wauwhaus at the start of the new academic year in Maastricht. The housing corporation bought the building on the Dr. Nevenstraat from real estate developer CORES Development in Antwerp to meet  the great demand for independent student housing in Maastricht, which was recently voted the best student housing city in the Netherlands. The building was fully let in just a few weeks and is now ready to welcome the first students for the new academic year.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New quality housing offer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In recent months, The former Europahave office building on the Dr. Nevenstraat was  converted into a high-quality student campus these past months. The offer concerns mainly self-contained furnished studios with their own kitchen and bathroom. In addition, the building offers 9 group apartments with a living room, kitchen, bathroom and 2 or 4 bedrooms that you can rent with your friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n \"\"\n <\/a>\n \n \"\"\n <\/a>\n \n \"\"\n <\/a>\n \n \"\"\n <\/a>\n \n \"\"\n <\/a>\n \n \"\"\n <\/a>\n <\/div>\n\n\n\n

Apart from the residential units, Wauwhaus offers a wide range of communal and multifunctional relaxation areas, as well as additional study areas and an underground cycle shed. The use of these communal areas stimulates social interaction between students and creates a community of its own. This distinguishes Wauwhaus from the current range of student accommodation on offer in Maastricht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this property, Wonen Limburg wants to add student housing in the city with an appropriate value for money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wim Hazeu, director of Wonen Limburg: \u201cThere is a lot of private accommodation on offer in Maastricht. This is a nice addition to it. Moreover, by offering so many rooms in one building all of a sudden, we create a welcome clustering. This is partly at the request of the city and the university. A lot of fragmentation puts pressure on the neighbourhoods. That is why they  too think it is important for housing corporations to invest in (independent) student housing.\u201d<\/em>   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vivianne Heijnen, alderwoman for housing of the city of Maastricht, is also pleased with the completion of the Wauwhaus: ‘Maastricht is developing more and more emphatically as an international university city in a powerful knowledge region. Full service rental<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Fully furnished and decorated, the rooms are managed through Huizen Beheer Maastricht. The fact that all the rooms are rented out in a matter of weeks, without a prior physical visit, shows that the students are also happy with this type of accommodation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tom Kissels of Huizen Beheer Maastricht confirms: \u201cCertainly the foreign students indicated when they enrolled that they opted consciously for this concept with many communal areas and attention to comfort, so that they can make contact with other students more easily.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Renovation and construction process<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

At the beginning of this year, BAM Bouw en Techniek started the renovation work, which consisted of both construction and technical installation work.
