Surrounded by 10 hectares of lush beech forest, the iconic Royal Belge building in Watermael-Boitsfort has undergone a complete metamorphosis in recent years. Together with Urbicoon, Foresite and APE, CORES Development has been working on the reconversion of the 40,000 m² office building.

The new Royal Belge building, conceived and designed by Caruso St John Architects and Bovenbouw Architectuur, has been carried out in collaboration with DDS+. The reconversion of the historic, but also single-purpose bronze-coloured and cross-shaped structure into a dynamic and multifunctional location has taken place with respect for the architectural heritage.

SOUVERAIN 25, ALL-IN-ONE HOSPITALITY CONCEPT

In addition to offices and co-working spaces, Souverain 25’s new mixed-use programme also includes a hotel, restaurants, food market, auditorium and sports and wellness centre, which will see the building take its rightful place in Brussels urban life. The impressive new vertical hall connects the spaces on the ground, first and second floors and allows light to penetrate to the core of the building.

BELGIAN INTERIOR ARCHITECT LIONEL JADOT

Under the artistic eye of Belgian (interior) architect, designer and artist Lionel Jadot, the archetypal lines of the building have also been extended to the interior, which has been constructed from natural materials, such as leather, concrete, ceramic, aluminium and wood. Anyone entering Souverain 25 will be immersed in an unadulterated, contemporary hotel experience in the spirit of yesteryear. For instance, the restaurant has been inspired by Mies van der Rohe’s New York Four Seasons hotel from the 1920s, with the hotel rooms, among other things, being a nod to Le Cabanon and Le Corbusier’s ‘machine for living’ philosophy – hyper-functional but also warm and soothing.

I love the time blur we leave visitors in. Is it old or new? I think it's mostly magic.
Lionel Jadot

At the end of June, the four-star Hotel Mix opened with an accompanying gym and wellness area, two 25-metre swimming pools, three restaurants, a bar, co-working space and meeting rooms. Earlier that month, Fox food market opened with no less than thirteen luxury food stalls.

Meanwhile, Souverain 25 has been fully finished and delivered, and the building shines like never before. Enjoy the renovated iconic Royal Belge building in the above video, or plan your visit at www.mix.brussels
